Introduction:

Province 2 has 8 districts. It is located in the Eastern Terai part of Nepal bordering province 1 and 3 in the north, province 1 in the east, India in the south and province 3 in the west. The main language spoken is Maithili (45.30%) followed by Bhojpuri (18.58%), Bajjika (14.65%), Nepali (6.67%) and Urdu (5.87%).

Agriculture:

As per the National Sample Census of Agriculture 2011, the province contains 672,927 land holdings. In terms of area, 93.98% of the total (541268.42 Hectares) are in the Wet area. Holdings are fragmented as each plot contains on average 3.3 parcels of land. 64.38% of holdings contain between one to three parcels of land, and 13.08% of holdings contain six or more parcels of land.
